Massage sessions typically take place in a conference room, break room, or even in an open area beside the work station. A clear 5 × 6-foot floor space should be considered.
Quick access to a restroom would be a bonus for the therapist to wash hands between massages (if necessary).

Staying clothed is a convenience of chair massage. Some clients prefer to take off a coat or sweater, but this is optional based on their preference. Most chair massage techniques are based on downward pressure as opposed to gliding pressure.

Some contraindications with chair massage are: recent surgeries, bone fracture and certain stages of pregnancy.
